It's tough for the Australian squad to achieve unprecedented feats.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has achieved everything.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

In the end, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing completely," stated Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself that way, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was removed Australia required another 66 at run per delivery - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a significant event.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
