Christantus Uche Ignites Dominant Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite entering their first-ever continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure straight entry to the knockout stages, especially after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Opportunity
This match offered a platform for several Palace's lesser-used talent to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had finished their league season proved outmatched even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Control Established from the Start
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official dismissed the protests.
Ex-Arsenal man did not have wait long to find his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
